Children’s Picture Book Illustrator for Authors and Publishers
Hello, I’m Kirk.
I’m a children’s picture book illustrator and author with experience illustrating independently published books, educational titles, and narrative projects for young readers. I help authors and publishers bring stories to life through expressive characters, thoughtful visual pacing, and illustrations that support strong storytelling.
As both an illustrator and the author of The Mermaid and the Grumpy Old Clam, I understand the picture book process from both sides. I know how much care goes into a story, AND how important it is to work with an illustrator who respects the heart of the book while guiding it visually from beginning to end.
I collaborate closely with independent authors, educational publishers, and creative teams to turn ideas into polished, publication-ready illustrations. Whether the project is a full picture book, a cover, or an educational series, my focus is always on clarity, consistency, and creating artwork that feels engaging and emotionally accessible for children.
My portfolio includes published picture books, educational mini-books, and personal storytelling projects. Across all of them, I aim to create warm, colorful worlds filled with expressive characters that feel alive on the page – illustrations that don’t just decorate a story, but help tell it.
I value clear communication, thoughtful collaboration, and a calm, reliable creative process. Many of the authors and publishers I work with are navigating the publishing journey for the first time, and I take pride in being a steady, supportive partner throughout the process.
Outside of illustration, I enjoy storytelling in all forms, from games and short stories to time spent with my family. Those influences often find their way back into my work, shaping the playful, narrative-driven style you see throughout my portfolio.
If you’re an author or publisher looking for an illustrator who understands picture books, values collaboration, and cares deeply about storytelling, I’d love to hear about your project.
